Our Story

The Path of Light Foundation was created to provide the necessary funds and staff (Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists) to allow blind and visually impaired students in the Wichita area the choice of accessing a private, Christian education. Before the creation of this foundation, families of students with visual impairments simply did not have the option to attend a Christian school.

Educating students who are blind and visually impaired is expensive. The regular cost of providing the necessary staff, assistive technology, braille and large print textbooks, and accessible educational materials can average over $40,000 per student. This cost is in addition to the typical school tuition that each student’s family pays. The Christian school is not able to absorb the extra cost, so the Path of Light Foundation was formed to bridge this gap.

In addition to providing services within the school environment, the Foundation also provides exciting educational opportunities for students outside of the school setting. Activities planned in various community settings help children and their families gain necessary life long skills and increased independence.
